J. L. Gasser
I was born and raised in middle Tennessee (Around Nashville). I did all the fun things growing up like fishing, hunting, and camping with my friends. I had one thing that was different, My father was a pilot that had his own airport and flight school. My first word was airplane. So I had to learn to fly. I was around the airport all the time working (if having fun is considered work). I flew solo when I was only sixteen and got my license. So planes were always my first love, till I met my wonderful wife Wanda, then came marriage, then three kids. So flying had to take a back seat. I ran a milk route with a local milk company for twenty years, then in 1984 I got hurt and had to leave my job. It was during this time we were at a art show where I saw a painting of an old building on old tools, of course I said I could do that. My wife has always been an artist so with her help I dared to try. I found out I had a knack for painting. So one day that summer we went to a craft show to set up and try our luck at selling art. All we had was a sheet to put on the ground. We sold enough that day to buy a table. So we really started from the ground up. This was 1985, I painted any thing that would stand still long enough to paint. In 2005 I started to paint air planes, then it was farm tractors, next trains, then firehouses and all types of country scenes. Then in 2008 I had another dare, to paint a Wild Turkey Feather. It was a challenge that I couldn't turn down. Most feather's will have wild life scenes painted on them, but not mine. I enjoy doing old buildings, planes, tractors, and country scenes on my feathers. I must say I have had a lot of fun with the feather art, as most people have never seen a painted feather. I feel blessed to have a job with my wonderful wife, and have the ability with my art work to bring a smile, and maybe some old memory's of Reflection of Yesterday's.
